Ascendance Memoriam Secret inscription on inner-ring bandThough Spring was bursting outside, everything was wrong. The sun didn't seem right. It was too small, as though drifting away. Shadows cut at strange angles, and the flowers were too bright like in a memory, or a dream. As the pandemic spread and my anxiety rose, I found myself thinking often of my happy childhood in rural Ohio, and the lilacs on my grandmother's farm.
